Paris in Boston Sketching Tour: French Influence on Back Bay Architecture and Landscape

This Plein Air sketching tour explores  the design of particular buildings on Commonwealth Avenue and their roots in French  Classical architectural.  Attendees will learn simple yet effective methods of studying and drawing in situ.  The focus will be on studying and examining through free hand sketches and drawings the design of the building street facades and their gardens. 

Students are responsible for providing their own materials (Sketchbook, Pencils, Erasers, Pencil and Sharpener).

Instructors

Leslie-jon Vickory  - is a senior interior architectural designer at the firm of Hamady Architects LLC and a major contributor in design and illustration of the firm’s award winning projects with twenty years of practice and teaching. Her work has focused on projects in the US and abroad—several of which having received the ICAA’s Stanford White Award and the Bulfinch Award, as well as the Palladio Award. Leslie-jon is an instructor in a range of programs for the ICAA, including a two-day conference at the Ames-Webster Mansion, and the 2016 inaugural Paris Drawing tour. During the seven years she served on the faculty of Boston Architectural College, teaching Residential Construction, design studio, and illustration, Leslie-jon created a study abroad program in France for Residential Interiors and Decorative Arts students.  Her design work has been featured in Boston Magazine and New England Home Magazine. Her interior watercolors have been published in “An Ideal Collaboration: The Art of Classical Details” by Philip James Dodd. Leslie-jon travels to France several times each year to study architecture, design, drawing and painting. In addition, through her design firm, VITRUVIA, Leslie-jon offers clients inspired interiors in the Classical tradition.

Kahlil Hamady is the principal of Hamady Architects LLC. He is a practicing architect, registered in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, and Virginia. His firm has received many awards including three Stanford White Awards, the inaugural John Russell Pose Award, and the prestigious Palladio Award. The firm’s work has been published in Veranda, Period Homes, Southern Living, among numerous other periodicals. Hamady has served on the National Board of Trustees of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) and is a current board member of the New England Chapter. He has taught free hand drawing courses for the ICAA, theory courses and the University of Virginia Continuing Education department, and a drawing class at the Boston Architectural College (BAC). He holds a BA degree from Texas A&M University and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Virginia.
